Mark GT collab with Killing Joke’s Big Paul Ferguson on ‘Remote Viewing’ EP

Released on 24th August 2018 via the Dead Radio Station record label, we are pleased to confirm this new collaboration on the solo release by Big Paul Ferguson: Official (aka BPF) of post punk legends Killing Joke… with KJ embarking on a 40th anniversary tour in September, drummer “Big Paul” has announced the release of his solo debut EP, titled Remote Viewing, a new collaboration with Mark Gemini Thwaite.   The EP’s seven tracks include guitar, bass, and keyboard contributions from MarkGT, best known for his work with The Mission, Peter Murphy, Tricky, Gary Numan, and his own band MGT;  Ferguson had performed drums on the latest MGT album, Gemini Nyte. Also appearing will be Brainshadow, who mastered the album & performs electric violin on “X-Box.”

Written and recorded by Ferguson & Thwaite at Drum ‘n’ Steel Works in Baltimore, USA & co-produced and mixed by Thwaite at Mob Research laboratories in Los Angeles.. “As an avid fan of Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots I was deeply moved by his passing. Mark and I were busy recording the Gemini Nyte album at the time and I reached out to him to record some acoustic guitars for “Atlanta”, as I was toying with releasing a stripped version of the song as an Ashton Nyte solo single / tribute at the time. Mark kindly obliged and then kept adding bits and pieces to the musical arrangement and it organically evolved into a “Gemini Nyte” track. Once I had laid down the vocals I knew it had to be our album closer. It is not necessarily the best known STP track but has been my favourite song of Scott’s since the moment I first heard it. We shot a very impromptu video of Mark and I recording the song in the studio, in the hope that it captures the intimacy of the performance and the love we both have for this beautiful song and our respect for the body of work Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots have given us. “Every Little Dream” is a song I wrote and demoed years before meeting Mark. It was one of those songs that was waiting for the right context before making its way into the world. When Mark and I started working together on the Gemini Nyte album, I sent him the demo and he loved it. Mark’s guitars and treatment certainly bring something to the party and the track has become one of our favourites, as well as treat to play live. Hopefully that comes through in the video as well, which was shot during our little European tour last year. Once again Mont Sherar did a wonderful job making us look good!” – Ashton Nyte

Following the success of MGT with Ville Valo (HIM) last year on the gothic rock cover of ABBA’s classic “Knowing Me Knowing You” (over 2M views on YouTube), former Mission/Peter Murphy/Tricky guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite has teamed back up with vocalist Ashton Nyte of The Awakening to create the upcoming album ‘GEMINI NYTE’.

The duo signed to legendary US gothic label Cleopatra Records, and will release the sophomore MGT album on 23 February 2018. The new album features 13 new songs written and recorded by Thwaite and Nyte, plus Paul Ferguson (KILLING JOKE) on drums and will feature guest appearances by Burton C Bell (FEAR FACTORY) and Lol Tolhurst & Pearl Thompson – founding members of THE CURE who appeared on the band’s early & classic releases.

Mark and I started working together on the “Volumes” album and we just kept writing. We wrote and recorded most of the Gemini Nyte album within 3 or 4 months of meeting each other. I think that fluidity is reflected in this song and captured by the beautiful video Vicente Cordero has made for us.”

MGT feat.Ville Valo-official video premiere for ‘Knowing Me Knowing You’

Along with the release of the single ”Knowing Me Knowing You” on April 15th, British guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite (aka MGT) premiered his new  video starring Ville Valo (HIM), the featured vocalist on the ABBA cover. The video was shot in the California mountains and Helsinki Finland during February and March with well-known Finnish video director & photographer Ville Juurikkala (The 69 EYES, APOCALYPTICA, HIM). Juurikkala is known for his very unique way of catching pictures, blending in colours, and with the layered shots in this video, he creates a kind of James Bond feeling to it.

MGT gave the following comment about the video shoot:
“ABBA released ‘Knowing Me Knowing You” nearly 40 years ago in the winter of 1977, and the single sleeve and their video had a wintery feel to it, so when we decided to shoot a video for our version, both myself and Ville Valo agreed we should try and capture some of the feel of the ABBA version and have a winter vibe to our video as well.. So we shot my footage up in snow covered mountains, and Ville’s close-ups in front of a fire place in a secret place in Hell-sinki.. we’re pleased with it, and director Ville Juurikkala did a fantastic job!”
