“Mark is a friend, and the stars were aligned… it was the right song at the right time” – Ville Valo

The video was shot in the California mountains and Helsinki Finland during February and March with well-known Finnish video director & photographer Ville Juurikkala (The 69 EYES, APOCALYPTICA, HIM). Juurikkala is known for his very unique way of catching pictures, blending in colours, and with the layered shots in this video, he creates a kind of James Bond feeling to it.

MGT gave the following comment about the video shoot:
“ABBA released ‘Knowing Me Knowing You” nearly 40 years ago in the winter of 1977, and the single sleeve and their video had a wintery feel to it, so when we decided to shoot a video for our version, both myself and Ville Valo agreed we should try and capture some of the feel of the ABBA version and have a winter vibe to our video as well.. So we shot my footage up in snow covered mountains, and Ville’s close-ups in front of a fire place in a secret place in Hell-sinki.. we’re pleased with it, and director Ville Juurikkala did a fantastic job!”

In a distant time in a land far away (well.. London in 1996 to be precise) MGT formed a band called BLUEMAX with Andy Cousin of his old band The Mission and Andy’s previous band All About Eve. They recruited Darren Scullion on vocals and an amazing drummer Tony Peart. Mission keyboardist Rik Carter also made an appearance on several recordings as did All About Eve vocalist Julianne Regan, including a stella appearance on the band’s beloved cover of ‘Superstar’ made famous by 70’s band The Carpenters (see video below).

Many fine ales were quaffed and they recorded an albums worth of material during 1996-97 but sadly never got signed despite some label interest.. the band dissolved as Mark joined Tricky‘s live band in 1998 (and later the reformed Mission) and Andy rejoined the reformed AAE. The unreleased album languished for many years… until now!

The album has been lovingly remastered and released by Emission records and is now available in digital formats via iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Tidal etc.

After After a hiatus of nearly 10 years, the original founder members of NEW DISEASE– the band formed in 2002 by guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite and vocalist Jacob Lee Bane – have decided to release the long awaited and to date unreleased New Disease album on CD and digital download.
New Disease 'Patent Life' CD

New Disease ‘Patent Life’ CD

The band – including Queen Adreena bassist Richard Adams and original drummer Ritch Battersby (The Wildhearts) released the Axiomatic EP back in 2003, co-produced by NIN/H.I.M producer John Fryer, and the band received favourable reviews in the British rock press including Kerrang! magazine, Metal Hammer and Rock Sound magazine. This drew the attention of Tool/Muse producer David Bottrill, who negotiated a deal for the band with Universal Records USA and his label imprint “Mainstation Music” in 2004. During this time drummer Ritch Battersby departed the band and was replaced with former One Minute Silence drummer Eddie Stratton.

After signing to Universal records and releasing the single ‘Like Rain’ produced by Bottrill, the band were later dropped by Universal amongst many other bands during a restructure. New Disease never officially disbanded but all plans to release the band’s debut album were placed on indefinite hiatus.. until now.

In June 2014 the band announced on their website and facebook page that after a hiatus of nearly 10 years, founder members MGT & Bane had written new material and planned to release the long awaited album on CD and digital download.

‘Patent Life’ – ten years in the making – is finally mixed, mastered and released via CDBaby.com in North America on 11th August 2014. Recorded between 2003-2004 during sessions with producer David Bottrill and John Fryer, and featuring current drummer Eddie Stratton (One Minute Silence), the 15 track album (in CD and digital formats) includes many of their own self recorded sessions, a brand new version of the 2004 single ‘Like Rain’ and an exclusive new 2014 song ‘Plainfield’. Mastered to perfection by Maor Appelbaum, this album is a must have for all fans of New Disease and ‘Anthemic’ & ‘huge stadium rock riffs and electronica’ (Metal Hammer /Kerrang).

marchviolets2014tourSince I chose to leave Peter Murphy‘s band last September over personal differences, things have been quiet on the live front but all of that is to change soon, as my friends The March Violets will be touring the USA in June and I’ll be joining them onstage for a few songs at the San Diego and Los Angeles shows.

You may recall The Violets reformed in 2007 and released ‘Made Glorious’ last year, their first full album in many years. The limited edition 2xCD includes the ‘Dandelion King’ MGT remix (check out free Soundcloud download below). The Violets were part of the seminal UK goth scene in the early 80’s and were labelmates to The Sisters of Mercy on Merciful Release. Frontman Si Denbigh later toured with the Sisters on numerous tours.  More info and tour dates on the March Violets website [here]

In other news, I completed some new remixes for Sex Gang Childrenfor their forthcoming EP, and the band previewed the new video for their forthcoming download single ‘Hollywood Slim (MGT remix)’ at their recent London concert on 24th May – the video was shot in London, Athens and Leipzig. A release date for the single and video is TBC. More news at sexgangchildren.com
